Chartered Accountant · Founder & Proprietor
Rakesh founded R R Sahani & Company with a simple belief: every client deserves the attention of a senior professional, not just a file number. The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026. Income earned from that date falls in "Tax Year 2026-27", and many form numbers have changed: TDS certificates are now issued in Form 132, and quarterly TDS statements are filed in Forms 138, 140 and 144.
New regime slabs and the ₹75,000 standard deduction continue for Tax Year 2026-27. With the rebate, salaried individuals with income up to ₹12.75 lakh pay no tax. The new regime applies unless you opt out.
A return for AY 2026-27 can be revised up to 31 March 2027. Revisions after 31 December 2026 carry a fee, so it is cheaper to correct errors before year-end.
TCS on overseas tour packages has been reduced to 2% from the earlier 5% and 20% rates, easing the cash-flow cost of international travel.
Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall at 5% or 18%, with 40% for specified items. The 12% and 28% slabs no longer exist; re-check product HSN rates on your invoices and billing software.
DIR-3 KYC is no longer annual. Directors file once every three financial years by 30 June. The next cycle for most existing directors is April to June 2028.
Short answers to questions taxpayers ask most often at this time of year. These are general information, not advice on your specific facts.
Yes. A belated return for AY 2026-27 can be filed up to 31 December 2026, with a late fee and interest on any tax due. After that, an updated return (ITR-U) remains available for up to four years from the end of the assessment year, at an additional tax cost.
Salaried and other non-audit individuals: 31 July 2026. Non-audit business and professional cases: 31 August 2026. Tax audit cases: 21 November 2026 (extended). Transfer pricing cases: 30 November 2026.
It is the default. Salaried individuals without business income can choose the old regime each year when filing the return. Individuals with business or professional income can opt out once, and switching back is restricted.
Under the Income-tax Act, 2025, the year in which income is earned is called the Tax Year, replacing the separate "previous year" and "assessment year". Income earned from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 is Tax Year 2026-27.
If your tax for the year after TDS/TCS is ₹10,000 or more, yes. Instalments are due by 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March (15%, 45%, 75% and 100% cumulatively). Presumptive taxpayers pay the full amount by 15 March. Use the Advance Tax Planner above to work out amounts.
After the September 2025 rate rationalisation, most items fall under 5% or 18%, with 40% for specified items, and some goods were exempted. Rates are notified by HSN code, so look up your exact code in the CBIC rate schedules linked in the Knowledge Bank.
